When it comes to planning your wedding, the details can be daunting. Decor, choosing your vendors and even sending invitations can take away from the most important part of your big day, saying your ‘I Do’s’.
But there’s one part of the wedding planning process that quite literally forces you to remember to stop and smell the roses (or tulips, or lisianthuses…): floral arrangements. And when it comes to beautiful bouquets, stunning centerpieces and installations so perfect they belong in a museum, the designers at Love Always Floral know a thing or two.
Christy Tehven, founder of Love Always Floral, stopped by Brewhalla to chat with our wedding experts about all things floral and weddings and, of course, to sip a beer.
MEET LOVE ALWAYS FLORAL
BREWHALLA: So, how did Love Always start?
LOVE ALWAYS FLORAL: Love Always Floral was founded in 2016 in an eight-by-eight space in the basement of my house. I wanted to focus on weddings and events and deliveries, but really creating with love, and spreading joy for others and inspiring beauty.
It’s actually named for my grandmother. She always signed her cards ‘Love Always,’ so it was just easy. I also realized when I was looking through old cards that my great grandmother had a birthday card that said that too, and my mom has always done it, but Love Always was my grandma’s thing.
It’s rooted in love and strong women being there for each other, cheering for each other. And when I fell in love with flowers, I more so fell in love with the meaning of flowers and why they exist. We get to be with people on their most special and intimate days and celebrations and hard times – and the significance of those moments is not lost on us.
The wedding industry was a primary focus when I started Love Always, but what’s become my favorite is that we do these couples’ weddings, but then we get to do their anniversaries, and we do a gender reveal for their first baby and other moments that come their way through life. We get to have those relationships with them and build that bond and it’s just so fun – we get to be with them throughout all stages in their life.
That’s why we’re here – to help make the world a bit of a better place through flowers.
BREWHALLA: You do so many different events, but when it comes to weddings specifically, what is your favorite part about designing wedding flowers?
LOVE ALWAYS FLORAL: There’s just something about the bouquet that I love. Like, that’s what they carry when they’re walking down the aisle and standing next to their significant other. It’s one of the things that welcoming them into marriage. Not that it’s the only thing, but it’s something that’s in your hands and with you all day. The bouquet is definitely still my favorite piece of the wedding business.
I really love weddings. It’s one of my favorite things about the job. It’s such a happy time – sure there’s a lot of stress, as you guys see I’m sure, but we get to live in a little world together. You get to give the couple a hug and see them before everything gets crazy (the day of their wedding) and it’s so cool to be able to build those relationships, not only with the bride, but with the family and other vendors too. It’s a really beautiful community, and I just love that couples trust us to build that and take care of it. It’s the trust and the significance of the wedding that we get to be part of.
BREWHALLA: You’ve done a ton of installations here at Brewhalla – whether it’s weddings, corporate events, whatever. What’s your favorite part about working in the Brewhalla space?
LOVE ALWAYS FLORAL: I love your ceiling! It’s industrial, but still clean, so no matter what color or style we use here. We’ve done everything from very classic with all whites to funky pink palms, and it pops against the space. It’s also intimate enough that a hanging piece can make a huge impact. We’re not competing with a huge space that we have to try and fill. It’s my favorite.
BREWHALLA: Are there any trends that you’re personally liking right now? Regardless of what couples are wanting, is there anything that you’re seeing that you’re really liking?
LOVE ALWAYS FLORAL: Oh boy, so many things. I’m loving the lush, chartreuse amaranthus that hangs over the edge of the bouquets, and layered hydrangeas and more chunky statements have been really fun.
For backdrops or in installations, there’s some really pretty, super lush draping pieces that I love. Twin bows are always classic, too. But really, the chunky, layering, color-blocked installations have such a pop. You can really see the colors stick out.
BREWHALLA: What are your top three tips for couples who are looking to start the process of picking out their florals?
LOVE ALWAYS FLORAL: The number one thing I would recommend couples do when they start picking out florals for their wedding is to be synced on where they want their impact spots to be – is it the altar? The head table? – and then where do they want to put their dollars.
A rough budget, or a range of what they want to spend, is another good one. Just so they’re not so far off where one person has something in mind and another has something completely different. So deciding if flowers are a huge impact moment for them or not can help determine their budget.
I just love it when I see couples that are making these decisions together. And you can just tell, they have grace for each other. So my last tip would be to go in with an open mind and see where it leads you.
BREWHALLA: Is there anything else you’d like people to know about Love Always Floral and how you work with couples or working with Brewhalla?
